Alumni Spotlight: Amy Do

Our past membership has included a number of stellar individuals over the years. Although many have since graduated, they haven’t lost the spirit of Scouting and continue to instill positive change within (and without) the community, while bettering the lives of those around them. One such individual is an alumnus by the name of Amy Do.

A Family Away From Home

Amy: Hi, my name is Amy Do! I’ve been in Scouts since I was 19 years old. Joining a Scout Group is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I moved to Canada right after high school, with no friends, no family, and a new start. However, when I met the Scout Group I found a new family away from home.

I still remember that day, the first time I was introduced to the group. It was a Camp Day hosted in a big playground, and older scouts taught us how to make a campfire and tie knots. I saw how nicely everyone treated each other during that day, and I thought to myself: “they are so kind, and they are family!” I signed up immediately.

Personal Development and Scouts

Throughout the years, I’ve learned so many lessons that helped me become the person that I am today. Scouts gave me an opportunity to be on stage – to be an MC, which prepared me to be on a big stage later on, in front of 400 people. Not only that, but Scouting also taught me to love others, appreciate what I had, and give back to the community, which prepared me to step up as an individual and reach out to help others.

Community Outreach in Guatemala

I am in Guatemala now and I am fundraising for a small village school here through Go Fund Me. The moment I walked into the school, I knew that every kid there deserved better. A better school, a better education, and a better opportunity. If you would like to contribute towards a good cause, you can read my story and donate here!

Although I’m not in the program anymore, all the lessons that I’ve learned from Scouting will stay with me forever. Thank you, Scouts!
