Why Attend Rainbucket Camp?

Rainbucket is an annual weekend camp hosted by the Fraser Valley Council.  It brings together Venturers, Rovers, Rangers, and Link members, which thankfully gave us 3 days to meet and connect with fellow members of the organization.  The camp adopts a new theme each year inspired by box office movies. This year, more than 250 Scouts joined us at this Top Gun-inspired camp.

One of the first things we did upon arrival Friday night was explore the area to meet our camp ground neighbours.  Not bringing our own fire pit was a bold and nearly regrettable choice, especially considering where our camp site was located. Though it was only 7:30 pm when we arrived, it felt nearly midnight.  It was so cold, and we were surrounded by absolute darkness.  Regardless, we made the best of the situation by doing what you do at camp – visit other scout groups and exchange stories over a warm fire. Everyone was really nice.  Shout out to all of our new friends!

Saturday morning came, energizing us with the warm sunshine and the fresh, earthy smell of nature.  Breathe in.

Then, right off the bat, we were off on the Highway to the Danger Zone!  We swooped into an array of Top-Gun inspired activities; an obstacle course, slingshot battles, an airplane race, you name it!

Feel the need… the need for SPEED!

We made it to the end of the Danger Zone and entered most memorable part of camp.  In our big group, we walked towards a mysterious location.  Like closing a zipper with our eyes, we saw wood panels piled towards the sky.  In minutes, it became a hungry, powerful, and mesmerizing flame.

Then, fireworks, with an incredible throwback playlist that brought us back to our high school days.  We’ll never forget Scouter Nick jamming to the songs and showing off his one-of-a-kind dance moves!

We set up our tents on the top of a small hill.  Our site’s position in the cold and windy darkness was challenging.  Fortunately, the days at camp were bright and sunny, which is rare for fall camps.  Because of Jenni and Ozzie (Rovers from our Scout Group), we were able to enjoy hearty meals on our little Windy Hill home, warming our hearts to fight off the cold. They had prepared eggs and sausage for breakfast and chili soup at night. Our meal planners did a fantastic job ensuring that we were full and happy!

We spent the chilly, foggy, and substantially quieter Sunday to close and clean-up. We headed home feeling grateful for this experience having all learnt something new and making new friends from neighboring Scouts groups. It was the perfect Fall getaway for us to laugh, relax; it was a brief escape from our day-to-day bustling lives in the city.

Time at Rainbucket Camp, without a doubt, is time well spent!

P.S. Though tent hopping was a great way to meet new friends, we recommend that you DEFINITELY bring a fire pit to camp. Bbrrrr!

Wow!! Thank you for sharing such amazing experience. This is what we should raise more awareness about. After all, being a Scout is not just about surviving in jungles in a hardcore mode. It is also about being able to enjoy the campfire with your fellow Scouts, sipping hot chocolate while the cold wind breeze by and sharing stories under the moonlight. Looking forward to seeing more spectacular content like this.
