By: Nick Pearson
23rd Elsie Roy Troop has been very busy this June: Two camps, a BBQ, and our first maiden Voyage.

In preparation for this summer’s Canadian Jamboree, Pacific Coast Council put together a pre-camp to allow the troops going to get some practice. Scouts that could not attend the upcoming CJ were invited as well to get a small taste of the main experience. 8 two-hour program blocks over the weekend provided Scouts with high adventure and new friends.

Raft Building

The troop answered feverishly, “A Raft!”, when asked what they wanted to build with their pioneering skills. For the last meeting of the year, the scouts were given directions to meet at Granville Island. They were met with supplies and a simple set of instructions to fulfill their wish. An hour later, they had created H.M.C.R. Elsie Roy, and were ready to test its sea worthiness. A few minor modifications before it hit the water and the raft managed to provide some buoyancy and entertainment.
