Rovers

It starts with Scouts

The 180th Pacific Coast Scout Group is a member of Scouts Canada and a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Scouts Canada is a co-ed program, and a non-profit organization. There are five sections (or “age groups”) in the Scouts Canada youth program: Beavers (ages 5-7), Cubs (ages 8-10), Scouts (ages 11-14), Venturers (ages 14-17), and Rovers (ages 18-26).

Rover Program

Our program is designed for Rovers, ages 18 to 26.

We aim to be the place where young adults can go when they want to develop skills to better themselves and the world by learning to work in teams and leading projects that directly benefit our communities and planet.

In the Scout program, we have an administrative team called “Scouters”. All of our Scouters are graduates of the Rover program, meaning they have “aged out” of the Rover Crew and are now volunteers giving back to our youth group. Our Scouters help us by mentoring and providing support to our Rovers as we navigate the rapids of early adulthood.

Time commitment

What is the time commitment for this program?

The answer is “it depends.” We organize ourselves in a matrix organization where Rovers can jump between projects, take time off, or focus their time and energy in one area (i.e., finance, operations, program, etc.), or one large project.

Project types include, but are not limited to:

  • Hosting a workshop
  • Organizing a community service project
  • Planning an outdoor adventure/expedition
  • Preparing for an international service project (~18-month project)

Depending on what age you join, the length of your time in the program will also vary. If you join the Rover program at 18, you will have eight years in the program before graduating or “aging out.” If you join at 24, you have two years in the program, and if you join at 26, you might only have a few months.

Is the program for you?

We host bi-weekly info sessions. If you are interested in joining one of our activities or learning more, please leave us a comment on our Sign Up page or DM us on Social Media. We look forward to meeting you and learning more about you too!

COVID 19 update

Since March 2020, our program has gone virtual. We have been meeting online regularly with Zoom, Google Meet, and other video conferencing tools. During Covid-19, we are committed to keeping our members safe, connected, and prepared for the “new normal.”
