Founded on Service

After four days of rigorous work from our International Service Project contingent, the newly acquired Scout Hall in the Province of Nayarit was finally inaugurated on May 10, 2014. Our contingent was invited to witness this milestone event as it marks a new chapter of Scouting in Puerto Vallarta.

Attendance of the ceremony included the National Chief Scout of Mexico, Scouter Ana Lorena Gudiño Valdez, the President of Mexico Scout Association, Scouter Victor R. Blake Gomez, and the President of the Province of Nayarit for the Mexico Scout Association, Scouter Moises (Moy) Ruvalcaba Ceja.  All delivered resounding speeches that explained the importance of the Scouting Movement in Mexico, the importance of opening a brand new Scout Hall in the Province of Nayarit, and what this achievement will mean for Scouting in Mexico.

In addition to the senior leaders attending this event, many members of the Scouts from the Province of Nayarit were also in attendance to celebrate the joyous milestone of the new Scout Hall. Their presence was important as this event provides Mexican scouts with the rare chance to experience the synergy of the different Scout groups that will be joining the Scouting family of the new Province of Nayarit

Our International Service Project Contingent member, Eli Chan, delivered a moving speech in English and Spanish on behalf of the contingent that expressed how grateful we were in being able to help serve the local Scouting Movement, and sent our best wishes to the Scouts of Nayarit.

The unveiling of the new Scout Hall would not be complete without a ceremonial exchange of neckerchiefs.  Scouter John and Eli presented our national neckerchief to Scout Victor and Scouter Lorena as they also presented us with the Mexico Scouts’ national neckerchief.  This exchange of neckerchief is a significant benchmark for both the Mexican Scouts and our International Service Project contingent because it signifies the international friendship made between the Scouts of two countries.

Thinking back to the days that I have dedicated towards this service project, it was truly touching to see the faces of Scouts and Scouters alike light up when they see the colourful mural and the inspiring quotes painted on the walls of the Scout Hall.  For me, knowing that my work will continue to inspire a Scout to be of service to others is the most rewarding thing of all.
