General Updates International Projects iProj China 2012

Dinner with the PRC Consul General

On July 4th, participants of our most recent International Project were invited by Madame Liu Fei, Consul General for the People’s Republic of China, to showcase and highlight some of the work done on the trip, sprinkled with anecdotes that brought back memories and shared much laughter. Also in attendance were city councilors, respected members of the local Chinese community, PRC Visa Bureau staff, and the top three local male and female models from an international modeling competition.

Pinky Au, Brandon Ma and Kevin Li gave a stirring presentation of our work and experiences in China. Brandon led with a brief introduction of who we are as a Rover Crew, what we do as a youth development program as well as a general overview of our International Project and its purpose and objectives. Pinky then delved into the Xi’ an experience, describing our race against the clock amidst material and other resources constraints to complete the mural for the orphanage in time for an official unveiling. Workshops we had facilitated in Shilong and aspects of cultural exchange were recounted by Kevin. Brandon finally summarized the presentation by describing indirect effects and benefits participants of the International Project experienced – newfound and rekindled friendships, teamwork and the true meaning of excellence, to name a few – and above all, expressing our gratitude to the Consul General for support that was extended to our travelling contingent throughout various legs of our China trip.

Omni Television was also in attendance, interviewing some of our members and taping the entire evening’s activities. The result was broadcast on that evening’s news.

Note: Our segment starts at 3:27 & is mostly in Mandarin

To cap the evening off, Madame Liu re-confirmed her offer originally extended at our flag ceremony: to continue supporting future 180th Pacific Coast Scout Group’s International Projects to China. We’d like to extend our appreciation to Madame Liu for her generosity and support to our project; it is with her continued support that will make our International Projects to China increasingly successful in the future.
